Arguably one of the most difficult things to plan for your wedding day is the infamous walking-down-the-aisle moment. There are so many larger details for the big day that, honestly, it can get lost in the shuffle. So, to help you prepare for the important decision, we’ve curated a budding list of romantic and ethereal tunes to get the wheels turning.

Song Options:

  1. “Dawn”  from Pride and Prejudice 2005

The same movie that brought you *that* hand flex scene also has a surprisingly dreamy soundtrack, complete with this pick inspired by Beethoven’s early sonatas. This song will bring out the hopeless romantic in anyone, and is sure to leave a few guests teary-eyed as you make your procession.

2. “A Thousand Years” / “Turning Page” by Christina Perri and Sleeping At Last, featured in the Twilight Saga

These next selections may make a few cringe because of their connection to the Twilight franchise, but if you give them a chance they are great options for any bride-to-be. Slightly dramatic with heartfelt lyrics and a keyboard background, they will set a distinct mood for your walk down the aisle.

3. “Perfect” – Ed Sheeran

For any young couples out there, this song may ring a few bells because of its propensity to be the *one* slow dance song at any school dance. Seriously, was there a secret DJ rule book that decided this song was the pinnacle of romance? Either way, it’s still a great song with a message sure to resonate with many couples, perfect (see what I did there) to start your ceremony.

4. “Until I Found You” – Stephen Sanchez

A recent gem released in 2023, this lovely tune will serenade you as you walk to the altar. If you’re not a fan of this selection, consider checking out the artist’s full discography for a larger variety. His crooning voice makes a wonderful backdrop for your special moment.

5. “Mia & Sebastian’s Theme” from La La Land

Yes, yes, this movie may not have had the idealized “happy ending” many fans wanted for its two main characters, but that doesn’t mean the movie or the music isn’t romantic. This theme is a personal favorite because of its hauntingly simple melody and earnest feel. Use it for your own happily ever after and rewrite its reputation!

6. “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong

An oldie but a goodie. Does the grass seem greener and the air cleaner when you’re with your partner? This song is the exact representation of that feeling, complete with Armstrong’s classic raspy voice. If you want to put your own special touch on the song, consider adding in a trumpet or trombone accompaniment to give an extra nostalgic feel.

7. “Air” from “Water Music” by Handel

This is for all of those people who love all-instrumental songs but don’t want to use the common wedding march melodies. This tune will leave you floating down the aisle, literally, with its jaunty strings meant to resemble the feeling of the breeze. At least, that’s how I choose to personify it. If you want to keep searching for the perfect instrumental song, Handel, the composer, is a great place to start as well.

8. “Flower Duet” from Lakmé, by Delibes

If you’ve ever watched Parks and Recreation, this song may be familiar to you. In fact, it’s the exact one Donna sang as Leslie walked down the aisle of her city hall wedding in this scene. Can you say romantic? While the song is meant to be performed by two singers, it can also be performed by one singer, as highlighted above, or performed by a variety of duetting instruments.

9. “Stand By You” by Rachel Platten

Another song with meaningful lyrics, this 2015 hit may be a great option to revamp for your wedding day. With the potential to be a deeply moving lyrical cover or upbeat pop ballad, it may appeal to a multitude of brides. Either way, you’ll know that “Love, you’re not alone” as you process in.

10. “I Like To Move It” from Madagascar

Okay, hear us out. Remember when flash mobs were all the rage in the late 2000s? Who’s to say they ever went out of style! This is quite literally the perfect song to choreograph a dance to when you surprise your partner with an impromptu and elaborate routine. Just please let us all live vicariously through you and post a video to YouTube after the wedding!

Tips:

Every person is unique, meaning there’s no guarantee any of these songs resonated with your personal style and vibe. That being said, if none of the songs on our list sparked your interest, consider these tips that may help you find something special.

Sentimental Value

Do you and your partner have a favorite song (or a hundred) that hold meaning for you? Is there a song that was playing during your first kiss or first date? Consider starting your search with meaningful memories or moments that represent your love for each other. Remember, this whole wedding thing is, first and foremost, about the couple, so whatever way you can make your day feel more tailored to your experiences and personalities is a great place to start.

Test Out New Genres

Oftentimes we think walking-down-the-aisle songs need to be beautiful orchestral arrangements or lyrical pieces. I mean, just take a look at our list above to see that finding songs outside of those genres can be a little tough. However, we encourage you to find a genre that fits your personality. Maybe you love rap or folk music. Try to incorporate one of those songs or that style of music into your ceremony. If it will make you smile more during your big day it’s worth consideration.

Live Instrumentals

One of the most popular ways to make wedding music feel more intimate and personal is by incorporating a smaller group of instrumentalists to perform. This may look like a string quartet, a jazz combo or a small singer/pianist duo. If this sounds appealing but you aren’t sure where to start looking, ask around for any known instrumentalists in your area. There are always a wide variety of local groups looking to book gigs.
