They want color, a unique shape and a style that speaks to their personality. Madison Chamberlain, a Philly-based bridal designer, is at the helm of this style shift.

With the help of her team, Chamberlain designs and sews together these whimsical pieces. Her self-titled brand is best known for its veils, like the Sweetheart Veil, that have blown up online. This is not their only product type as they also specialize in custom headwear, accessories and bridal dresses. What the brand focuses on is making a piece their customers can’t wait to wear on their special day.

Looking at the brand’s website and social media, brides can see a plethora of vibrant fabrics, shapes and cuts. The story of how this popular boutique came to be is just as vivid as its designs. Chamberlain made her first nontraditional wedding dress in 2021. It was for a friend of a friend that was having their wedding in New Orleans. After creating the piece, Chamberlain presented it and the bride loved the finished product: a custom dress embellished with lots of sparkle. 

From that experience, she realized she enjoyed working with brides and helping them create pieces that they’ll love. Chamberlain also wanted to keep pursuing these opportunities because of a gap in the industry. She mentions that there weren’t enough designers for brides who wanted looks that were more over the top. With each piece that her and her team make, they’re helping fulfill dreams that would otherwise go unnoticed.

As more brides want a look that is uniquely their own, the demand for custom pieces rises. These types of bridal fashion truly connect the designer with the customer. Being custom-made, they are distinct from other pieces made regularly available for purchase. As Chamberlain describes, designing is one of her favorite elements of the custom process.

Along with creating the custom design, Chamberlain enjoys the final fitting when she sees the bride wearing the piece. She mentions that it’s a positive, emotional experience because you can see the joy beaming off them. The process truly creates a tie between the brand and the client because the design represents the bride's whole self.

While most of the brand’s designs are colorful, they will also create pieces that are monochromatic. Those designs require the same amount of effort, thought and care. For Chamberlain, she explains that using the colors black and white for a design can be just as impactful and beautiful. As for the reason why her vibrant designs are so eye-catching, she explains how color has an emotional impact.  

Each day, more and more brides are searching for veils that are extraordinary and whimsical. This style shift didn’t start at one moment in time but it’s bubbling to the surface because of social media.
