Continental Square Ballroom Opening In 2028

Where you choose to have your wedding is an important decision. It's based on your personality, budget and values. While some venues are conventional, others are rooted in history and refreshed for today. The Continental Square Ballroom in York, PA is an elegant venue crafted for celebrations. You’ll want to book the space before its grand opening in January 2028.

The Continental Square Ballroom is located in the heart of Downtown York. From the outside, the building’s architecture takes you back to the early 1900s. This is no surprise once you learn that it was used as the continental treasury during the Revolutionary War. It was later rebuilt in 1929 as a bank that would close in the early 2010s. For over a decade, this space has been waiting for new life to be brought into it. This undiscovered opportunity inspired Kate Dear, the founder of Fêtewell, a company that refreshes historic buildings for celebrations. 

To keep authenticity and honor its history, the space will have its original bank architecture with minimal changes to the layout. This means that Fêtewell will simply be modernizing the inside to elevate it into a venue space. All original features– the teller space, the vault, the ballroom and more will be kept in perfect condition. You could book your wedding here and have a true, immersive experience. As Dear explains, her brand’s work is preservation-based, they aim to elevate past spaces into modern venues.

For those interested in booking, the ballroom has helpful policies. The full-day rental lasts from 8am to midnight, letting you and your loved ones extra time. They also have an open vendor policy that allows you to have more freedom in your planning. This venue was created for weddings by a founder who realized it can and should be easier for the happy couple. They shouldn’t have to be boxed in to certain vendors or be rushing around everywhere.

With weddings in mind, the venue’s layout will include specific rooms. In addition to the main ballroom (with an expansive, 40-foot barrel-vaulted ceiling), there will be a cocktail area for guests before the reception, two getting-ready suites onsite and a caterer area. The rooms were created by Dear with the idea of making the wedding day more calm and seamless. The bathrooms, life safety standards, fire systems, paints and floors will also be upgraded.

In terms of wedding themes, the sky is the limit. The ballroom has no set rules for decor yet so let your imagination wander. Dear describes that many of their venues have black tie events and that type of aesthetic works well with the space. Yet, any color scheme should blend in with the venue’s strong architectural design. Currently, Fêtewell is aiming for 150 guests for ceremonies and receptions, though that is open to change. They're taking bookings and the ballroom is set to open in January 2028.
